Technolympics, an Avenue for Transformation and Improvement

“Optimizing Creativity and innovation for School Change and Development” This was the theme of the 2014 Division Technolympics Skills Exhibition and Conference held at Desiderio C. Gange National High School, Division of Guimaras last December 3-4, 2014. The English dictionary defines creativity as the ability to use the imagination to develop new and original ideas or things, especially in artistic context, and innovation is the act of process of inventing or process of investing or introducing something new. These words are inherent with us, and likewise, inherent to all our pupils and students; however, some of us fail to uncover these special skills that are in built to us by Almighty God. As educators especially in Technology and Livelihood education, we have lots of opportunity to discover the potentials of our pupils or students and through technolympics, our efforts in honing the skills of these children are highlighted and rewarded. This year’s competition includes the following: Bric-a-Brac Making, Simple Wiring Circuit, Duster Making, Fruit Processing and Preservation, Fruit Shake with Organic Herbs, Embroidery/Decorative Patching, Agri-Dish Gardening, Asexual Plant Propagation, Dressing the Chicken, Power Point Presentation, E-Poster Making, Card Making for all Occasion. There are lots of contest to choose from and there are lots of opportunities to manifest creativity and innovation. Technolympics’ endeavor does not end with the competition only, but it continues to the transformation of the students into career-oriented individuals-the individuals that will have the power to change the condition of their homes, the community and the nation! Gracias to technolympics! Gracias to the DepED-Division of Guimaras for providing an avenue that highlights these big words-creativity and innovation which are indispensable for change and development! Efren B.
